DNA Bank
Genomnz™ has the facilities to receive and store DNA samples long-term. All samples submitted are stored in the DNA Bank unless the owner requests otherwise. These samples provide a permanent DNA record of the animal and can be profiled at any stage in the future for existing tests or as new tests are developed. The samples will also be available if there is any change in technology.
Genomnz™ does not claim ownership of any samples submitted for testing. Samples will be released if requested (in writing) to the submitter or the owner as identified on the submission form. No samples will be used for research purposes without the permission of the submitter or the owner as identified on the submission form.
Contract R & D
Genomnz™ has undertaken contract research and development work for dairy cattle, finfish, shellfish and plant species. We welcome the opportunity to discuss developing new DNA-based assays or services to suit your requirements. Our capabilities include microsatellite and SNP genotyping, and DNA sequencing. We also have access, through the AgResearch Animal Genomics Section, to a wide range of the new technologies and specialist knowledge needed for whole genome sequencing, marker discovery and genome-wide genotyping techniques.
Microsatellite Genotyping – Applied Biosystems 3730 DNA Analyzer
Genomnz™ has developed a number of microsatellite based assays for parentage analysis. Using both published markers and microsatellites that have been identified from whole genome sequencing data, the individual markers are multiplexed to get the maximum amount of genetic information as cost effectively as possible. We work closely with the breed societies or research institutes involved to develop services that will meet their needs and are also within their available budgets.
DNA Sequencing – Applied Biosystems 3730 DNA Analyzer
The ABI3730 DNA Analyzer also gives Genomnz™ sequencing capabilities so we can provide a range of services from the basic “run only” to complete sequencing reactions.
SNP Genotyping - Sequenom MassARRAY® Compact 96 (MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer)
Genomnz™ staff have the technical capabilities to develop both single SNP-based assays and higher-throughput multiplexes of up to 40 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). These tests are assessed on the client’s needs and developed accordingly. Most of our cattle single gene tests are SNP-based assays that were specifically introduced due to customer request.
The Sequenom mass spectrometer is most cost effective for projects where up to 100 SNPs need to be screened across hundreds of samples. SNP multiplex designs incorporate up to 40 SNPs and the robust chemistry has been used successfully in both plant and animal species. Additional software and chemistry packages are available and allow for methylation and quantitative gene expression analysis.
Genome-wide Genotyping – Illumina BeadStation (iScan System)
A recent acquisition, by the Animal Genomics Section, is an Illumina BeadStation. Illumina’s Infinium assay is designed to interrogate thousands of SNPs and can be used for genome-wide genotyping applications such as whole-genome association studies, genome-wide selection, determining genetic merit, identifying quantitative trait loci and comparative genetic studies.
Genomnz™ has access to many of the new technologies now available and can provide a sequence and marker discovery service, leading to validated gene assays, tailored to your specific project.
Please contact Genomnz™ for any of the above services or to discuss your particular requirements.
